NEW ORLEANS – Public officials from St. Charles and surrounding parishes gathered with citizens at the Hilton Riverside Hotel’s Ballroom Friday for the Greater New Orleans Region Prayer Luncheon.
Following Thursday’s federally mandated National Day of Prayer, the event featured prayers for public servants, economic development and protection from hurricanes and terrorism.
St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. offered the pledge of allegiance before a crowd of more than 600 attendees.
The luncheon, organized by the Rev. Chuck Staub, helped raise money for the post-hurricane rebuilding effort in New Orleans. Individual seats were available for a $30 donation, $250 bought a table for eight and $350 reserved a VIP reception and priority table.
Along with St. Pierre, the event was hosted by Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard, St. Tammany President Kevin Davis, St. John the Baptist Parish President William Hubbard and Plaquemines Parish President William Nungesser. The keynote speaker was George Shinn, owner of the New Orleans Hornets basketball team.
Other St. Charles Parish officials who attended were Councilpersons Billy Raymond, Terry Authement, Shelley Tastet and Carolyn Schexnaydre. Executive Secretary Anedra Coleman and Community Services Director Maurya Glaude also attended.
The mission of St. Charles Parish government is to provide high quality, efficient services to sustain and enhance the quality of life for all residents of St. Charles Parish.
