The St. Charles Parish Department of Animal Control helps to enforce local animal cruelty laws and provides a shelter for homeless pets within in the parish.
Animal Control works closely with the St. Charles Parish Humane Society to evaluate and adopt out healthy dogs and cats. The Humane Society raises money to provide shelter animals with medical care and other health-related needs. The Humane Society, in coordination with the animal shelter staff, also provides a variety of programs to promote pet spay/neutering awareness.
The adoption fee is $80 for all animals.
ADOPTION OPPORTUNITIES:
- See and adopt pets during normal business hours at the shelter, or view and inquire about them online.
- The Humane Society shows adoptable dogs at PetSmart, 6851 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie Saturdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Adoptable cats are available at that location daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The Humane Society is also visiting the Freret Market first Saturday of every month in coordination with Zeus' Place. The group will bring a variety of dogs currently available for adoption and take applications from potential adopters.
